About TagNerd

TagNerd is a hunting data tool built by a hunter and data scientist who wanted better draw odds analysis than what's available elsewhere. All draw odds data comes directly from official state agency reports.

How Draw Odds Are Calculated

Draw odds are calculated as the number of hunters drawn divided by the number of first-choice applicants for a given hunt code. This gives you the probability that a first-choice applicant was drawn in any given year.

Each state has its own draw system. Colorado and Wyoming use preference points, New Mexico and Idaho use a pure random lottery. We preserve all state-specific detail so you can see exactly what it takes to draw a particular tag.

Data Sources

  • Colorado — CPW Post Draw Recap Reports (PDF). Preference point breakdowns and harvest statistics.
  • New Mexico — NMDGF Draw Odds Summary (Excel). Three applicant pools per hunt.
  • Wyoming — WGFD Demand Reports and PP Breakdowns (PDF). Special vs regular NR licenses.
  • Idaho — IDFG Hunt Planner (CSV/API). Controlled hunt data from 1998 to present.

This site is not affiliated with any state wildlife agency. Data is updated annually after each draw cycle.
